The small leather connector piece broke within a month of owning. Since I used this lightly and carefully, it is obviously not a well made product.

This item looks good, but unfortunately the glue holding the tabs on the ends together tends to come off onto the phone. Perhaps it’s just the heat of the Arizona summer, it may work better in cooler climates.

The “leather” has already started to wear off of the belt clip, and the belt clip detached itself from the pouch. With the leather worn off, it looks like there is cardboard underneath. If this is leather, it’s the thinnest, cheapest stuff they could find.

Great leather case, fit well for iPhone3G, and with some room in spare for a iPhone with shield case. The leather is in good quality, the belt clip construction is especially solid – major plus. Overall, this is much better than those cheaper iPhone case sold at ~$2 range.

I’ve been using the Grantwood holster for about two weeks. Obviously, I don’t know how long it will last, but I’m very pleased with its design and quality. In particular, the clip is long enough for my belts, and strong enough to withstand mild accidental tugging. (I lost my previous holster – another brand – in a fall during a walk in the woods; maybe I’ll find it in the spring.)
The caveat is the iPhone 3G’s silent switch. The switch is way too easy to turn to silent. In fact, it switches to silent every time I remove it from the holster, when it’s on my right hip. This had become a real problem. I had to check the switch every time I used the phone or re-holstered it. Sometimes I forget to check, and I missed some important calls as a result.
Using the human factors engineering part of my psyche, I decided if the movement of the phone against the holster was turning ON the silent switch, then moving the phone to my LEFT hip should reverse the action. And – so far – this is working.
The best solution would be for Apple to redesign the switch to still be easy to use, but difficult to accidentally use it. But it would seem to be more feasible to change the holster by adding a cutout (or something like that) to clear the switch.
